YCB (Yoga Certification Board) – All Levels of Yoga Courses Explained

The Yoga Certification Board (YCB), under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, was established to standardize yoga education, training, and practice. Its certifications are recognized across India and internationally, making them a trusted pathway for those who want to build a career in yoga.

Whether you’re a beginner, a teacher, or an advanced practitioner, YCB offers structured multi-level certification courses that align with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).

Levels of YCB Courses

  1. Foundation Course in Yoga (Yoga Volunteer)
  • Level: Entry level
  • Who Can Join: Beginners with no prior experience.
  • Duration: 36 hours (short-term).
  • Focus: Basic introduction to yoga, simple postures, breathing practices, and yoga philosophy.
  • Outcome: Certificate as a Yoga Volunteer.
  1. Yoga Wellness Instructor (Level 1)
  • Level: Instructor-level certification.
  • Eligibility: 10+2 pass with some knowledge of yoga OR completion of volunteer course.
  • Duration: 200 hours (3 to 6 months).
  • Focus: Teaching yoga for wellness and preventive healthcare.
  • Outcome: Can teach yoga in schools, fitness centers, and wellness studios.
  1. Yoga Teacher and Evaluator (Level 2)
  • Level: Professional teaching level.
  • Eligibility: Graduate with yoga background OR Level 1 certification.
  • Duration: 400 hours (6 to 12 months).
  • Focus: Deeper yoga practices, teaching methodology, evaluation skills, and therapeutic applications.
  • Outcome: Certified Yoga Teacher qualified to conduct classes and evaluate others.
  1. Yoga Master (Level 3)
  • Level: Advanced professional level.
  • Eligibility: Graduate with minimum 5 years of yoga teaching experience OR Level 2 certification.
  • Duration: 800 hours (1 to 2 years).
  • Focus: Advanced yoga philosophy, research methods, therapeutic yoga, and supervision skills.
  • Outcome: Recognition as a Yoga Master, capable of leading institutions or advanced programs.
  1. Yoga Acharya / Yoga Therapy Specialist (Level 4)
  • Level: Highest certification.
  • Eligibility: Postgraduate in Yoga OR Level 3 with teaching/research experience.
  • Duration: 1600 hours (2+ years).
  • Focus: Yoga therapy, advanced research, and leadership in yoga education.
  • Outcome: Recognition as a Yoga Acharya (Yoga Therapy Specialist), able to design research-based yoga interventions, head institutions, and work with hospitals.
